Mitragyna is a genus of plant belonging to the Rubiaceae family, also known as the coffee family. There are 10 species within the Mitragyna genus, including Mitragyna Speciosa (Korth.) Havil., which is commonly known as “Kratom”.

Kratom is a tropical tree native to regions of Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, and New Guinea. So far, more than 40 alkaloids have been discovered in the leaves of Kratom, two of which are the main known indole alkaloids – Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine.

Kratom has been used for centuries by indigenous communities to treat pain, increase energy, reduce fatigue, enhance sociability and production among other benefits. The most common way to consume Kratom is the dried leaf powder either through capsules, brewed into a tea, or mixed into a beverage.

Kratom, like many botanicals, offers significant benefits when used responsibly. However, it’s crucial to understand that Kratom is not suitable for everyone, especially minors.

Without proper age verification, there’s a risk that young people could access products they may not use safely. By enforcing strict age verification, it helps ensure that Kratom is used only by adults who can make informed decisions.

In addition to age restrictions, Kratom’s legal status varies widely across different regions. Proper location verification ensures that vendors do not inadvertently ship products to areas where Kratom is banned or restricted. This protects both the vendor from legal repercussions and the integrity of the industry as a whole.

At Primo Botanicals, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of quality and compliance, drawing on our extensive experience in adjacent industries. Our rigorous age and location verification processes are part of our dedication to ensuring that Kratom is used safely and responsibly. We want to demonstrate to government agencies that this industry has responsible players who are committed to safely supplying this botanical and enhancing everyday lives.

We align with the American Kratom Association (AKA) in upholding these standards.

Primo Botanicals is “Driven by Science” to ensure that our customers not only receive high-quality products, but also legitimate ones. For the time being, we are only offering our pure premium Green, White, and Red Kratom powder and capsules. This is because research has shown that Kratom “strains” may exist, but are very hard to define, and there has yet to be an industry standard set.

Recently, a group of scientists aimed to show the variability in 53 different commercially available Kratom products that were labeled as specific strains. To do so, they measured the chemical composition of the alkaloids and determined that there are two distinct chemotypes of Kratom – “high Speciofoline” and “low Speciofoline”. Chemotypes are defined as the same plant, but different sub-species of that plant based on variable quantities of chemical components or secondary metabolites. Speciofoline is an oxindole alkaloid that is found in Kratom, unlike the infamous Mitragynine or 7-Hydroxymitragynine, which are indole alkaloids. The Mitragynine content in these products varied by fourfold, while the Speciofoline content varied by more than 90-fold.

To further conclude their findings, they extracted DNA from a few “strains” of Kratom which supported that the identity and abundance of alkaloids is highly variable in genetically similar material. In fact, there are 10 related species within the Mitragyna genus. Some products are marketed as certain “strains” with certain effects, but are drastically different when it comes to the quantity of chemical components and DNA. It is difficult to predict the effects of these “strains” when there is no industry standard, and no clear definition of what makes “x” strain different from “y” strain (i.e. alkaloid profile, growing conditions, post processing methods, etc.). Vendors must be proactive when it comes to researching Kratom in order to help define and set these standards. As this industry continues to grow with more and more people interested in incorporating Kratom into their health and wellness regimen, we have to work diligently to provide accurate information.

Not only do plant-based capsules allow us to offer our products to those customers who are vegan or vegetarian, but they also increase the stability and shelf-life of your botanical products. Gelatin capsules can contain up to 16% water, leading to dissolution of the capsule film, or can even capture moisture from the surrounding air. Although some sources say gelatin capsules are okay for powdered products, Primo Botanicals is conscious that degradation of a capsule can lead to issues like a decrease in potency, deformation of the capsule, or even reactions between the capsule and the encapsulated product. Please be sure to do your research and buy from vendors who are driven by science!

At Primo Botanicals, our commitment to quality extends beyond our products to include our impact on the environment. We prioritize using sustainable packaging options that align with our dedication to responsible practices without compromising affordability.

All of our packaging materials, from our zipper stand-up pouches to our stickers, and our shipping labels are fully compostable which helps to minimize excess waste. Even the small ziplock bags that come with our sample packs are biodegradable, ensuring that every aspect of our packaging contributes to environmental sustainability.

We’ve carefully sourced these materials to be the most cost-effective options available, so the price of our products remains accessible to our customers all the while supporting sustainable initiatives. By choosing sustainable packaging, we minimize our environmental footprint while maintaining the quality and affordability you expect from Primo Botanicals.
